Cosmetic Karma (or what goes around comes around)!
The two very lovely items below are from my friend & client Amber. Amber and I met on MUA and discovered we live near each other and she began coming to my Clinique counter, usually @ gift time. We also share the fact that we work Full Time for Uncle Sam (or Obama), however you wish to view it.
This time when she came for Gift with Purchase she presented me with a package wrapped in black tissue paper and the two items below were in it!!!! So unexpected and wonderful!
I didn’t have any idea she was bringing them. But, my dear Lemmingista’s, I believe in karma and random acts of kindness. I have tried to give makeup where needed without asking for something in return. I truly believe in random acts of kindness and putting “credits” in the karmic bank! Because then, if you’ve been good, the makeup goddesses paybyou back!
So if you have Makeup you aren’t using, donate it, give it away, gift it!
Itvwillnreturn to you, when you very least expect it!
Dearest Lemmingista’s, have you experienced karmic payback? Good or bad? Do you believe in karma? Tell me about it!
So, I have never been a huge fan if Smashbox, EXCEPT, every Tuesday and Thursday @ their website they have what they call “Let’s do Lunch”, where they will give you a FULL size item free with the purchase of any other item between 9:00am and 2:00 pm Pacific Standard Time. So being on the East Coast when noon hits, I generally see what’s on offer and have scored some nice values from time to time.
What’s even better is the “Curtain Call”
Area. This is the sale area where you can pick up alot of their discontinued and limited edition items for half price. AND……with “Let’s do Lunch” score a freebie AND……they always give a nice sample AND……. (deep breath), if you register for “pretty points” you score even another nice sample!!!
So last year Smashbox had this amazing “Muse” eyeshadow palette with these soft pretty colors but it was $48 so I passed it up. When I checked the offer this past Thursday, I saw the palette was on Curtain Call for $24!!! SCORE!!! So I ordered it, plus got a pretty double ended lipgloss and a nice mascara sample from my “pretty points”. It was delivered today!!! Oh did I forget to mention FREE and FAST shipping too???!
Yeah, so Smashbox is seeing ALOT more love from me!!!
So my Lemmingista’s, want nice makeup at amazing prices with frebies and free shipping?!! Go to Smashbox and then tell me what you get!!!
Hmmmm and tomorrow’s Tuesday too!!!
Back in ancient times (approximately 1978-1981), when I was in High School, no self-respecting girl was without her Bonne Bell lipsmacker. Back then they only made them in the “fat” size and back then my favorite flavor was chocolate cherry.
They also made a face toner/cleanser called 10-0-6 that was a funky brown color and also had a funky smell and literally stripped anything right off your face. Back then there were Sea Breeze girls & 10-0-6 girls. You were one or the other with the merits if both being hotly debated.
They were also one of the first companies that I remember making a cheek “stain”. Bonne Bell’s was in a tube and it looked like clear red jelly. You could apply a megaton and your cheeks just looked pink & rosy and never got any redder.
So strolling through Target I spied my old friend. Sadly, chocolate cherry is no more, pushed aside for tweeny bopper flavors. But one flavor has survived all these years and you can still buy it in the “fat” tube. Dr. Pepper! It just gives the lips a light rosy look
and still tastes the same.
So I took a little trip down memory lane and picked one up!
So my Lemmingista’s, is there a makeup product that reminds younof your youth??? Tell me about it!
The Cheap Seats. (Online E-tailer Version) StarsMakeupHaven.com
Their is a wonderful online E-tailer of eyeshadows, palettes & MAC Pigments; StarsMakeupHaven.com.
I was first made aware of them by the wonderful KarlaSugar who promoted them with an online discount code.
I initially purchased 4 pans of shadow, as I had an empty MAC 4 pan palette around and wanted to fill it. The single pans sell for $4.95, so for approx. $20, I filled my palette. Not bad, considering what some cosmetics companies charge for pre-made palettes. The products came well wrapped in a ton of bubble wrap, so there is no chance of crumbling or breakage. I was pleased by the silky texture and pigmentation of their product. I tend to like nuetral shades, and picked Champage, a light golden beige, Warm n Fuzzy, a deep brownish taupe, Bohemia, a bronze, and Cashmere, a reddish brown.
The prices on the site really can’t be beat. A pre-made four pan palette will run you $14.95, which breaks down to $3.73 per pan. Their 15 pan Smokey Eye Palette runs $21.95, which breaks down to $1.46 per pan. If you want to build your own palette, it’ll run you $49.95, however, if you break it down, that is still only $3.33 per pan. The variety of colors is extensive, with something to please everyone.
They also sell MAC pigment samples for $4.25.
The second time I went back, I decided to pick up some of the newer shades. Eden, a pink beige, Twilight, a periwinkle blue with purple flecks , Sex Kitten, a frosty pink, and Happy Ending, a bronzed pink. When my items came, I was not as pleased as I was with my first order. These newer colors contain alot of chunky sparkles and the texture isn’t as smooth as the original formula. The colors are pretty, but a tad too frosty for me.
All in all, though, I will probably go back for some of the older shades, as I did like those very much. StarsMakeuphaven also sells empty palettes and their pans fit MAC & E.L.F. Palettes and vice versa.
Definitely worth a try. And if want to see all their eyeshadow colors swatched, please visit Karlasugar.net!
So my Lemmingista’s, are you up for some fun and inexpensive goodies??? Let me know!!!
My darling Lemmingista’s, we take a break in this post from makeup and discuss another obsession of mine, SHOES!!!!!!
Unfortunately, I was not blessed with a pretty little size 7 or 8 foot, noooooo, I wear a size 11W shoe. Yep, that’s right, my foot is almost a foot long, and wide. A friend once remarked with feet like mine I could have been one hell of a swimmer. Trouble is I loath swimming and have phobias about water deeper than 5 ft deep. In High School another friend simply called them “shrimp boats.”. You get the idea.
With size 11W feet, well, there’s difficulties, feet usually balance height, and such is true with me, I stand 5’9 tall, barefoot. I also shop in Lane Bryant. You get the picture, petite, tiny and slim are not words used to describe me.
So back to the subject, WHERE does a woman with size 11W feet and a shoe obsession find shoes?? Well one of my favorite places is Lands End. The produce an excellent quality of shoe at a reasonable price that wears well. I usually can find flats and casual shoes from them and when you order wide that is exactly what you get. The variety of styles isn’t huge but the range of colors usually is. However, there shipping can be a bit steep. If you get the catalogs, they sometimes include codes for free shipping.
Payless Shoes is also a fairly decent resource. I usually hit them up during their BOGO’s. They do an 11W that fits me almost perfectly. I usually hit them up when in need of dress shoes, because I usually only need the shoes for a one time only occasion and don’t want to drop a ton of money on a pair.
Also the plus size store Avenue sells wide width large size shoes going from a size 9 to a 13 (I think). They bought out a shoe line called Cloudealkers. The shoes are not quite the same quality but they aren’t bad for the price. Be warned, I did have a pair or two of bad quality. The dye in a pair of flats turned my feet orange, and a pair of slingback wedges I liked, the lining under my foot started to peel up.
Another resource, if you have one in your area, is The Shoe Dept. This is one of those places you just walk through and look at the shoes and try on what you like. It can be hit and miss but I have found dress shoes and work shoes there. Also, they are the only place I find Nike flip flops in a variety of colors in the summer in my size and Nike’s are the only flipflops I will wear. I even got my mother to wear them, when she was sure she’d never find a comfortable flipflop.
There are also catalogs where you can find large wide width shoes. Maryland Square and Coward’s are two excellent ones. An online resourcebis. silhouettes which sells plus size women’s clothing and shoes. They also offer larger shaft boots in the winter months.
So do I have any plus-sized Lemmingista’s out there with BOTH a makeup and show obsession? Is there a website or store you want to recommend? Let me know!
So my Lemmingista’s, as you have probably noticed I have been devoid of inspiration as of late. Once again, I have slacked off in my posting of my latest makeup lemmings. Ah well, we start anew with fresh hope for better days! (OK, even I made myself a bit sick on that one).
Today while trawling the CVS when I should have been at the Jiffy Lube getting the oil changed in the company car (Shhhhh), I found these two little gems. I had been hearing about the Maybelline Quads for quite some time. They are supposedly well pigmented and silky and last fairly decently with a primer. So, since I had a $2 coupon with me, I selected this one, as I had been eyeballing it for awhile. The formula is indeed very soft and I advise a light & gentle hand when applying these. Also, the packaging is not the greatest with these.
The Physician’s Formula liners I found just as I was about to leave on a lower shelf. These are one of those products that advertise themselves as being complimentary to a particular eye color. I picked up “for blue eyes”. The three shades it contains are a blue, a brown, and a black. The black supposedly had blue shimmers in it, but I really didn’t see any when swatching it. I do like that they give you 3 color choices with these. The 3 pots probably amount to as much as you’d get in a large pot from a Department store. But you get a variety, which to me is a huge plus.
These were very smooth upon application and after they were “set” did not smudge or rub off easily. In fact , it took a few good rubs with a tissue soaked with makeup remover to get it off. Also, they do include a nice little brush of decent quality. Now, as you know I have a ton of brushes, but I do like when a company just doesn’t assume I just happen to have a brush lying around.
So there you have it, my wee haulette.
Have you tried either of these??? Love them? Hate them??! Let me know, my Lemminista’s!!!!!
